Master’s Report 2017:

On the whole I feel the Guild continues to thrive and keep the bells and ringing within its geographic area.
There have been many successful events during the year which include Special Practices, Outings and a four day break. These will be discussed further at the meeting.
I have managed to support most events and practices this year and I continue to feel that there is considerable enthusiasm within the Guild.
To conclude, I feel ringing in the Guild remains healthy and the social aspect also healthy. We will maintain an interesting programme for 2018.
Finally, I would like to thank all the committee members for being such an excellent team and supporting Guild activities during the year.
Joe Crocker as Ringing Steward. Mike Snelling for maintaining our records. John Haydon supporting me as Deputy Master.
My wife Janet for the treasurer's role. Finally committee members Margaret Bayliss and Janet Mann for all their help and support over the year.
I would also like to thank all Martley Guild members for their support as well.

Astley Tower Report:

Dear Martin  ,
Would you please put in my apologies for the A.G.M. have not been able to ring for past few weeks as had twisted my right knee on the  spiral staircase at Church.
it was swollen and diagnosed fluid and possible arthritis, so have had to take things steady for a few weeks.
The Tower is in reasonable shape bells have been serviced annually by Taylors, and our Thursday working party have mended the benches in the  ringing chamber.
My thank’s again to John Westwood and the Shrawley  ringer’s for coming over on the second  Sunday of each month to ring at Astley  when  numbers  allow.
With regard to safeguarding have put a notebook in the tower to register attendance of persons there.
I myself being  Churchwarden have D.B.S. C3 certificate renewed last November and I am aware John and Lucy also have D.B.S. certification so think we are well covered.
                                        Best regards
                                        Vic. Powell. Astley, St. Peter’s.

Once again we have continued to have good Monday evening practices but struggle for a full band for our Sunday services.

On 30th April we rang a quarter peal following Jacob Edwards' cycle ride around the Martley Guild towers in support of his trip to India.
His experience in India was awe inspiring and given him memories to last a lifetime.
I would like to pass on his thanks and also add my thanks to all the towers and to everyone who rang with him to make that day such a success.
3 quarter peals were successfully rung for our Christmas ringing at Shrawley on 10th December last year.
A quarter of Bob Minor was the first for Tom Briggs ringing the 4th ; a quarter of 7 Doubles methods and variations
was Chris Carter's first multi-method quarter ringing the 4th ; and a quarter of Original was the first for Jason Fisher and for Martyn Hills.
I arranged our tower outing in June to Warwickshire, ringing at: Rowington, Claverden, Henley-in-Arden, Wootton Wawen, Aston Cantlow, and Coughton.
Unfortunately we were unable to raise a band to take part in the Western Branch Striking Competition - the first time Shrawley has not been represented since ???? - many, many years.
No new recruits this year despite the promise of a visit from our Harvest Supper prize winners last year,
and a very enjoyable evening in June when the local ladies club, SWAGS, visited the tower to see and hear about the bells, and have a brief demonstration.
We look forward to next year.
